We all love going for camping for different reasons, it can be to reduce stress, to improve relationships between loved ones, exercise, to have some peace and quiet from home or just to have fun.
Since going for camping can take some few days or weeks, and they are done outdoors, you have limited equipment and resources to prepare the kind of meals that you can have at home. But there are food that you can have during camping that are nice and delicious as well.
Here are few food camping ideas that are just as nice as your home made food and also quick and easy to make you can have during your camping.
1. Campfire Banana Boats
Campfire Banana Boats is a quick and easy dessert you can make when you go for camping especially if you don’t wish to soil your dishes.
It mostly made by making a split in between the banana peel to stuff and fill it with toppings and any other ingredients you like to put in it, and its been wrapped with a foil, and set placed under heat.
Ingredients:
- 4-8 unpeeled bananas
- 2-3 cups of chocolate chips
- 2 cups mini marshmallows
- 1 cup of caramel bits
- 1 bag of crushed biscuits, cereal or crackers
Directions:
- step 1: Cut foil sheets that would wrap the bananas properly.
- step 2: Make a split cut lengthwise in the curve of bananas from stem to bottom. Be careful when slicing not to go all the way through. The aim is to achieve the boat shape to be able to stuff your ingredients inside.
- step 3: Open the split in the banana where you made the cut wide enough for you stuff your toppings and ingredient. For each banana add 2 tablespoon of chocolate chips, marshmallows, caramel bits, crackers, etc. with any of your desired ingredients.
- step 4: Wrap each banana with the foil, and place on the cooker of your choosing, it can be a grill or oven.
- step 5: Allow to cook for about 5-10 mins to allow ingredients like chocolates and marshmallows properly melt.
2. French Toast Sticks
French Toast Sticks is another delicious and easy camping meal idea. This toast are mostly served as breakfast but they can also serve as desserts.
They are so delicious that you don’t even need a syrup for it. They are easy to make and consume, and mostly enjoy by children.
Ingredients:
- Eggs
- Thick slices of white bread
- Milk
- Vanilla Extract
- cinnamon
- sugar
- butter
- maple syrup (optional)
Directions
- step 1: Add the egg, milk, and vanilla in a separate bowl and mix thoroughly.
- step 2: Mix the sugar and cinnamon in another separate bowl and set aside.
- step 3: Dip the bread slice in the egg mixture, and shake off excess.
- step 4: Melt a table spoon of butter under heat to grease the pan for the frying.
- step 5: Add the bread to the pan and cook for about 2-5 mins, turning on each side till it turns golden brown.
- step 6: Take the bread out of the pan after cooking, while its still hurt, mix the bread with sugary cinnamon mixture to coat it.
- step 7: You can serve with maple syrup for preference.
3. Campfire Steak With Smoky Bushman Sauce
Campfire steak with smoky bushman sauce is actually one of my go to camping food anytime. Like who doesn’t love a good steak with delicious sauce to go with it.
Ingredients:
- Maple syrup
- Smokey barbecue sauce
- smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon dried chili flakes
- 1 tablespoon white balsamic vinegar
- 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
- 1 or 2 garlic cloves, crushed
- Charred and buttered corn cobs to serve
- Asparagus, to serve
Directions:
- In a separate pan, add syrup, sauce, paprika, garlic powder, paste, sugar, chili, vinegar and a little cup water of about 1/2 cup. Cook and stir gently for about 8-10 mins on medium heat until mixture is thickened.
- In a separate bowl add your oil, garlic, thyme, pepper and salt. After mixing thoroughly, massage the mixture all over the steak. Preheat your preferred cooker over medium-high heat.
- Cook the steaks for 2-3 minutes each side.
- After all 3 steps are done properly, you are now ready to serve your steak with bushman’s sauce, charred and buttered corn and asparagus. With a Sprinkle of corn with extra paprika.

4. Campfire Mac & Cheese
Mac and cheese is a perfect option when going for camping. It is quick and easy to make, you can either pan it or pop it in the fridge as a pre made meal.
Ingredients:
- Elbow macaroni/pasta
- Milk
- Cheddar cheese
- Mozzarella cheese
- Parmesan cheese
- Butter
- Salt
- Pepper
Directions:
- Cook the macaroni/pasta in a boiling water according to the package instructions.
- Drain and allow to cool.
- In a separate bowl, add the cheese and butter
- Add some salt and pepper to taste
- Combine your prepared pasta with the cheese mixture
- Cover with foil properly and cook over camp fire for about 10-15mins or store in fridge until when ready to cook.
5. Superfood Egg Sandwich
The Superfood Egg Sandwich is a great meal to kick off the day full of strenuous activities like swimming, hiking, etc. during camping.
Ingredients:
For a single sandwich
- 2 eggs
- 2 tablespoons of Greek or non-fat yoghurt
- A pinch of salt
- 1/4 teaspoon of chili pepper
- Slices of tomatoes
- 2 slices of bread
- Slices of cucumber
- Mashed avocado
- Spinach leaves
- Onion
- mayonnaise (optional)
- And other additional seasoning ingredients to taste according to your preference.
Directions:
- Boil the eggs in water for about 8-12 mins.
- After boiling, take the egg out and place on a rack to cool down.
- Peel and chop the egg into tiny pieces.
- In a separate bowl, add the yoghurt, pepper, salt, onion, and other seasoning ingredients to taste, and mix thoroughly.
- Spread the mixture onto a slice of bread.
- Add your spinach leaves, slices of cucumber, tomatoes, and avocado.
- Add your egg
- Place the other slice of bread on top
- Heat a pan, add oil for greasing the pan, and place the bread on it, and sear on both sides till it becomes golden brown.
- If you can toast your bread before placing all the ingredients, if you don’t like searing it on a heated pan.
6. Banana Bread Pancakes
Banana is an absolute favorite for many people. Combination of banana to any recipe you are making, gives a nice taste and flavor to it.
Be it banana cake or bread, you just enjoy it because of the banana taste, which is why our banana bread pancakes is not an exception.
Everyone loves a good pancake for breakfast, and doubling with banana, its actually a delight.
Ingredients:
- 2 Ripe bananas
- 2 cups of all purpose flour
- An egg
- 1 cup of milk
- 1/4 cup of brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons of white sugar
- 2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1/2 tablespoon of vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon of baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons of unsalted butted
- Golden syrup, walnuts, hazelnuts, or any kind of nuts of your choosing
Directions:
- In a separate bowl, add all the dry ingredients together, the flour, brown and white sugar, the baking powder, baking soda, salt. Mix thoroughly until the mixture combines properly.
- Mashed the bananas until it becomes smooth.
- Add the wet ingredients, the vanilla extract, milk, and the eggs to the mashed bananas until it combine properly.
- Add the dry ingredients mixture to the wet ingredients mixture and combine properly. Do not over mix it.
- Add your chopped nuts to the batter
- Pre-heat a non-stick pan, add some butter or oil to grease the pan
- Pour the pancake batter per pancake at the center of the pan
- Flip the pancakes consistently while cooking until the small bubbles form on the surface and the pancake bottom easily releases from the pan. Cook for about 2-3 mins.
- Serve with maple syrup and a cup of milk.
7. Grilled Shrimp Foil Packets
Grilled Shrimp Foil Packets is one good choice of meal to make when going for camping. It is aa delicious and easy to make and prepare in a foil, they are very flavorful and you can be very creative with this meal.
Ingredients:
- Large raw shrimps, peeled and deveined
- Garlic
- Ears of corn
- Red potatoes
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Parsley leaves
- Butter
- Lemons
- Aluminum foil
Directions:
- Preheat the grill or oven.
- In a separate bowl, add the garlic, salt, pepper, parsley and other seasoning.
- Add the shrimps to the mixture and marinate for about 10-12 minutes.
- Lay the foil on a flat surface, and spread the ingredients in the foil evenly.
- Fold the foil properly after adding all the ingredients to seal it.
- Place the foil in the grill or oven and cook for about 10-15 minutes.
8. Ham Roll Ups
Ham Roll Ups is one of the easiest appetizers you can prepare during camping. They are very delicious and flavorful.
Ingredients:
- Cream cheese
- Thin sliced cooked ham
- Shredded Cheddar cheese
- Onions
Directions:
- In a separate bowl, add the cream cheese and cheddar cheese
- Microwave the cheese until it becomes smooth
- Place the ham on a flat surface, spread the cheese evenly and add the onions
- Roll the ham slices into thin logs
- Cut the ham logs into 1/4 to 1/3 inch wide rings
- You can serve or set aside to chill until when you want to serve.
9. Sweet Potato Peanut Stew
If you are looking for something nice, delicious, and healthy to try when camping, then this stew is the perfect choice for you.
With lots of veggies used in making this stew, you can begin to imagine how tasty, natural, comforting, and nutritious it would be.
Ingredients:
- Vegetable oil
- Garlic
- Onion
- Chopped sweet potato
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Tomatoes
- Peanuts
- Peanut butter
- Vegetable leaf
Directions:
- In a pan or pot, heat some oil on medium heat.
- Add onion and garlic and stir until golden brown.
- Add the potatoes and stir fry
- Add the tomatoes, peanuts, peanut butter, little water, and any other ingredients, and leave for 10-15 minutes to cook.
- Add your preferred vegetable, taste for salt, and cook till potatoes get soft, and stew becomes thick.
10. Cast iron frittata
As long as a frittata meal is not dry and bland, it is absolutely one of my best and easy to go recipe. A good frittata is a meal made with eggs and veggies, you can be creative with the ingredients and also the leftovers.
Frittatas can be served as breakfast, launch, and dinner. That is why it is one of the perfect food ideas when going for camping.
Ingredients:
- 6- 12 eggs depending on the quantity of frittatas you want to make
- 1/2 cup of milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Garlic
- Cheese
- Potatoes(optional)
- Vegetable or olive oil
- Chopped vegetables of your choice
Directions:
- Preheat your oven
- Crack the eggs into a bowl, whisk it properly, until egg white blend properly with egg yolk.
- Add your milk, salt, cheese and pepper, and mix.
- Stir fry the potatoes and vegetables in a separate pan
- Allow the vegetables to cool down, then add the egg mixture to the vegetables, and give it one good whisk.
- Pour the mixture into the pan, after greasing it with oil or butter. Spread the mixture evenly into the pan
- Sprinkle some shredded cheese onto the pan.
- Put in the oven and bake for about 15-25 minutes until cooked properly.
11. Campfire Rice Krispies Treats
Campfire Rice Krispies Treats is a delicious and simple treats to make for family. It can be used as desserts, sweets, treats, or food for family during Christmas, camping, thanksgiving, or any family gathering.
Ingredients:
- 2-3 tablespoons of Butter
- 10-12 oz of Marshmallows
- A pinch of Salt
- Rice Krispies
- Vanilla extract(optional)
Directions:
- In a large pan or cooking pot, add butter and melt over low or medium heat.
- Add the marshmallows to the butter and stir till it melts properly.
- Add the rice Krispies to the mixture, and mix thoroughly.
- Pour the mixture in a pan, and use a spatula and spread evenly.
- Chill in the freezer for about 10-15 minutes or allow it to cool, then serve.
- You can roast it if you want.
12. Oreo Cookie Skillet
Who doesn’t love a good cookie, and a good cookie made with Oreos. The Oreo cookie skillet is another good option for a dessert or treat when going for camping.
Its similar to the way you bake your cookies at home with an oven, but in this recipe , you make use of a skillet. And very easy and quick to make.
Ingredients:
- Package chocolate chip cookie dough
- Oreos
Directions:
- Mix the cookie dough with some Oreos and place on a cast iron skillet
- Spread it evenly on the skillet, and press some broken Oreos and chocolate chips as toppings on the dough.
- Cover the skillet, and allow to bake for about 10 minutes until cooked.
- After cooking properly, allow it to cool and serve.
13. Chili Dogs
Chili Dogs is a hot dog in a bun that is made with chili, lot of sauce and toppings to go with. You see it mostly served in a large gathering because it surprisingly a snack that satisfies the stomach to the full.
It is actually very nice and delicious. It looks complicated to make but it is actually easy, and can be very messy when eating because of the sauce and toppings in it.
Ingredients:
- Olive oil
- Onion
- Garlic
- Hotdogs
- Hotdog buns
- Chili
- Salt
- Tomato sauce
- Ketchup
- Grated Cheddar Cheese
- 1 pound of ground beef
- Mustard
Directions:
- Add some oil in the skillet and heat until it starts shimmering.
- Add your beef, garlic, onion, salt, chili powder, and cook for about 5-8minutes until beef starts turning brown.
- Add the ketchup, mustard, and tomato sauce, and allow it to cook on medium heat for about 10-15 minutes.
- While the chili is cooking, start preparing the grill or oven.
- Clean the hot grates of the grill to make a nonstick surface.
- Grill the hot dogs for about 2-3 mins.
- Toast the buns for about 2 minutes.
- Place a hot dog on each buns, add the chili sauce and cheese.
14. Campfire popcorn
We all love some good and tasty popcorn after long day. Having some popcorn after hiking and climbing during camping or out in the movies, or just chilling at home watching Netflix is so satisfying or relaxing.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of popcorn kernels
- 2 tablespoon of vegetable oil
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- Foil
Directions:
- Prepare your camp fire.
- Add your kernels, salt, and vegetable oil in a tin or a pan.
- Cover very tightly with foil, leave enough room to enable the kernels pop.
- Frequently shake the pan or tin gently to enable pop properly, and stop shaking until you hear the popping stops.
15. French Toast
French toast is a perfect breakfast or brunch idea. A good French toast is tender, fluffy, and delicious toast meal to enjoy with your family and loved ones.
I have always preferred a French toast to any type of toast because of its creamy and fluffy nature. They are best enjoyed with maple syrup and berries.
Ingredients:
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup of milk
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup maple syrup
- 8 slices sandwich bread or any type of bread you preffered
- 2 tablespoon of butter
- A pinch of salt
Instructions:
- In a bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, cinnamon, salt, and vanilla.
- In a skillet, on medium heat, melt the butter to grease it.
- Dip the bread in the egg mixture
- Transfer the bread to the skillet and cook until golden brown for about 3-5 minutes.
- Serve when hot or warm with maple syrup draped on it with berries as toppings.
